A while back I had a dog who really struggled with anxiety when I left the house. Turns out Amazon Echo devices already have a feature for this. Almost nobody knows it exists. It listens for barking. When it hears one, it automatically plays calming music.

And it's not just a nice idea, it's been measured.

That's the same kind of stress response dogs get from thunder and fireworks. The right sound calms it down. The wrong one makes it worse. No sound at all just leaves your dog where they started.

My dog's doing a lot better these days. But I still think this is one of the coolest free things just sitting unused in people's Alexa app. So I put together a free, tap-by-tap guide showing exactly how to turn it on. Takes about 5 minutes.
